Wat Rong Khun

Wat Rong Khun, also known as The White Temple, this contemporary, unconventional and privately owned temple is famed for its unique exterior and interior design which reflects the artist’s grand visions of heaven, hell and Nirvana. The exterior of the temple, including the gate, the bridge over a small lake and the main assembly hall, is all white. Inside the main assembly hall, unusual murals depict demonic faces, characters from popular culture such as Neo from The Matrix, Harry Potter and Superman as well as images of nuclear warfare and terrorist attacks. This is the major work of artist and owner Chaloemchai Kositpipat, and is an on-going project. When it is completed (which might take another 50 years), the temple will have nine buildings.
