Celebrating a Month of Love

We’ve just about wrapped up a Month of Love here at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and what a celebration it has been!

We’ve had underwater weddings, weddings on the back of an elephant, been named the sexiest country in Asia and even manned a kissing booth in Thai Town Sydney on the Valentines Day Weekend, and one lucky entrant won a very romantic holiday for two in our Month Of Love competition.

We started our Month of Love celebrating a unique Thai wedding package; the Trang Underwater Wedding Ceremony, which is currently enjoying its 19th anniversary.

This annual event is organised by Trang Chamber of Commerce for the 12th, 13th and 14th of February in Trang, renowned for its white sandy beaches and peaceful, romantic atmosphere.

If the underwater world is not for you, perhaps you’d be more interested in getting married on the back of an elephant? Another unique ceremony, only available in Thailand, happened this month on Valentine’s Day in Surin.

And if that’s not enough to convince you that Thailand is the destination for lovers, we’ve just been ranked the sexiest country in Asia.

That’s right, American travel agents have ranked Thailand as the “Sexiest Romance/Honeymoon Destination in Asia”. Recommend magazine is in its 43rd year of publication and is widely read by US-based travel agents. The publication announced the award at its recent Annual Reader’s Choice Awards ceremony.

And the icing on the cake during our month of love for Australian fans of our Facebook page Hug Thailand; a competition to win a holiday for two to a beautiful new resort in Krabi, including flights with Thai Airways.

Entrants were asked to tell us in 80-100 words why would they would choose Thailand as a wedding or honeymoon destination and post their entry as a comment on the Facebook page.

The lucky winner, Julian James Kiraga, was announced at the Lunar Festival, Sydney Thai Town on Valentine’s Day, where we also had a lot of fun at the TAT Kissing booth.
