Earlier this year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Sydney Office invited two of New Zealand’s X Factor teams to film their judges’ retreats in Thailand.
Two of the four X Factor groups spent a week in Thailand, while the remaining two groups had their judges’ retreats in New Zealand.
Former All Saints singer, Melanie Blatt took her group, the Overs, to Thailand with the help of her former band member Nicole Appleton.
The Overs stayed in Pattaya, at the Sea Sand Sun Resort and Spa, a 5-star resort with a private beach. During their stay the girls visited Thai Thani Arts & Culture Village while the boys went to the beach, nearby lookouts and checked out the local markets.
Australian Idol winner and pop-star Stan Walker, took his group, the Girls, to Bangkok along with NZ pop-star Ginny Blackmore. Stan’s group stayed at the Chatrium Hotel on the bank of Chao Phraya River and went sightseeing around the old town, Wat Po and Khao San Road.
For most of the contestants, it was their first time in Thailand, and for some, their first time overseas. From all reports everyone had a blast, with some contestants saying they would definitely have to come back and spend more time here.
TAT is hoping that the coverage in New Zealand will increase awareness of Thailand as a holiday destination for Kiwis.
The show is watched by millions of people, in fact it is one of the biggest reality TV shows in New Zealand, attracting over 1.3 Million viewers in the first week of its second series. For more information visit the X Factor website.
